Remedios Varo (i) - Surrealism (i)
Remedios Varo is a Spanish surrealist artist who spent her career in France ,Spain and Mexico. She is well known for her evocative and enigmatic work. She painted the Vegetable vampire just 1 year prior to her death. In this painting there are three mutants or vampires sitting around the table, feasting on red coloured fruits through a straw; below them, there are two hybrid creatures, a chimera of a rooster-cat, wearing leashes like pets. Remedios Varo also felt that her surrealist alter ego was a cat, and are very common in her work. She also used it as a feminine symbol. The main figures glow a bright orange; Remedios paints images that are as if from dreams. The characters are always surreal but also embody a familiar character; the main figures of the painting sit with their pets and it looks like a group of elite women who are having brunch at a bistro or cafe. The artist used dark and gray toned colours in her background in many, making the surrounding look dim and gloomy but the characters seem to be in their own path, and in their own journey,
